Here is a list that is generally accepted as a very good best guess. In the Triangle area, we are blessed with many professional shops.

The bestselling book of all time is the Bible. It’s been in circulation for centuries, and is published in every language. It has sold billions of copies, untold numbers of which were in the United States.

Harry Potter and the Sorceror’s Stone is the first book in J. K. Rowling’s renowned series. It is the bestselling book in the series, and when you add in all seven books, the boy with the lightning scar far outsells any other work of fiction.

A Tale of Two Cities, Charles Dickens’ classic story of the French Revolution, has been a staple of the literary world for over a century. It makes the required reading lists in high schools and colleges and was a selection of the Oprah’s Book Club.

The Lord of the Rings was an epic story long before it became an epic film. J.R.R. Tolkien’s thoroughly imagined world of good battling evil sucks readers in and never lets them go.

The Hobbit came before The Lord of the Rings and introduced readers to Tolkien’s fantasy land and made Bilbo Baggins a most unlikely hero and household name.

And Then There Were None was Agatha Christie’s most famous mystery. Ten strangers arrive for a mysterious dinner on a secluded island. A murderer strikes and the strangers must unveil the killer before they are all victims. It’s plot has been copied in countless books and movies, but it has never been matched.

The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis was the first truly grand children’s series. Parents still love introducing the world of Narnia to their children.

Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight started out as a young adult book about a girl and vampire. It turned into a worldwide obsession.

The DaVinci Code was not Dan Brown’s first book, but it was the book that launched his career.

Fifty Shades of Grey was E. L. James’ attempt at Twilight fan fiction. The tawdry tale of S&M became a legend of its own.

Dr. Spock’s Baby and Child Care has been an essential read for every new parent for decades and is still going strong.
